Analyte competency authorizations
Authorize staff to run each live analyte: authorizations proposed by competency training, signed by a reviewer, renewed before they expire.
An analyte authorization records that a person is competent to run a test on a particular analyzer, and until when. Authorizations are kept on each person's personnel record under "Authorization".
How an authorization is created
An authorization comes from one of two places:
- From competency training. Completing a competency module proposes an authorization for each analyte it covers. It shows as "Pending" until someone signs it.
- By hand. Click "Add authorization", pick the site group and the analytes, set "Authorized until" and, optionally, the modules that renew it, then click "Continue to sign". Only live analytes are listed.
A person cannot hold two open authorizations for the same analyte.
Signing, renewing and revoking
Competency is always signed by someone other than the person it covers, so you cannot sign your own authorization. The Primary Site Administrator is the only exception.
Click an authorization to open it, then do one of the following:
- To sign a pending authorization with your electronic signature, click "Authorize competency".
- To renew an expired authorization, click "Renew competency". Completing a renewal module proposes the renewal, but the date is not extended until it is signed.
- To end an authorization, click "Revoke" and give a reason.
Each authorization shows its status ("Pending", "Active", "Expiring soon" within 30 days, "Expired" or "Revoked"), where it came from, who authorized it, and its full history.
Where authorizations are used
For every live analyte at each site and on each shift, site staffing checks how many people on the roster hold a current authorization and flags analytes with too few. Team progress warns about authorizations expiring within 30 days.
