Entering QC results and reading Levey-Jennings charts

Enter QC runs one at a time, in bulk or from a file with AI, and read each analyte’s Levey-Jennings chart, data history and Westgard checks.

To record results, click "Add QC Data" on a lot or analyte, then choose one of three ways in:

  • "Single run" records one QC event with its operator, date and time, and a value for each analyte and level.
  • "Bulk entry" covers many days, or several runs a day. Each date and time becomes its own run.
  • "Upload data" lets you drop a CSV, Excel or PDF file, and AI reads the results into the form. You review everything before it is saved.

As you type, each value shows its z-score, any Westgard rules that fire, and a Y/N. Y means accept: the value counts in the statistics. N means exclude: the value is kept and still plotted, but left out of the statistics. Y/N is set from the Westgard rules, and a reject rule on any level of an analyte in the run makes every level of it N. To change a Y/N, pick Y or N in its column and add a comment on the row saying why. The Y/N you save is the one shown on the analyte's "Data" tab.

The "QC runs" tab lists one row per save, with who entered it and how. Click a bulk entry to reopen it in the bulk entry form, where you can correct values. Values you leave unchanged keep their review and acceptance. Click a single run to open its details, or expand a save to see each of its runs.

Levey-Jennings charts

Open an analyte's "Charts" tab to see its Levey-Jennings chart: the target mean and lines at 1, 2 and 3 SD, all from the lot's targets rather than running statistics. Points are marked as in control, warning, not acceptable or excluded, and values beyond 3 SD are drawn at the edge of the chart.

You can also show quality cycle events on the chart, such as proficiency testing, calibration verification, reagent lot changes and maintenance, to see whether a shift lines up with something that happened.

Data and statistics

Open the "Data" tab to list every point with its run, its acceptability, the rules it broke and its z-score, alongside the level targets and monthly and cumulative statistics. To ask the assistant about points, select them and click "Explain rule violation".

Rules and targets

Open the "Rules & targets" tab to see what each result is checked against. It shows the analyte's Sigma assessment, its current Westgard rules, every rule change with who made it and why, the "Target history" of each level's mean and SD, and any imported monthly statistics.

When targets change

When a level's targets change, whether edited by hand, applied from QC data or from a precision study, every saved result of that level is checked again against the new targets. The chart, z-scores, rules and Y/N then always match the current targets. Before you save, the dialog shows how many results will be re-checked and which ones change Y/N.

Nothing is lost. Each result keeps its earlier check, and a re-checked result shows a history icon in its "Rules" cell that says what it was before. The chart marks the change with a "T", and "Target history" on the analyte's "Rules & targets" tab lists every change: when, who, the old and new targets, why, and what changed. A Y/N someone set by hand stays as they set it.

A signed director review never changes. If a re-check touches results in its period, the review shows the change for the director to acknowledge with a note, and the Director's Report and the QC Lot Final Report list the target changes.

Monthly statistics from before

Use "Import historical monthly stats" to record a past month's mean, SD and count per level, for example from your previous system. Imported months inform Sigma but do not add points to the chart or run Westgard checks.

Late results

Results entered for a period whose director review is already signed need a reason, and the review shows how many results were added after sign-off.
