Analyte coverage: enough competent staff for every live test

Check that every live analyte at a site has enough rostered staff with a current competency authorization, overall and on each shift.

Analyte coverage joins two records Legion Diagnostics already keeps: the live analytes in the Test Directory and the competency authorizations on each person's personnel record. For every live analyte at a site, it counts the people on the site's roster who hold a current authorization to run it.

Reading the coverage table

Open the "Analyte coverage" tab. It lists each live analyte with its analyzer, lab area and subspecialty, the number of authorized staff, the earliest expiry among them, and one of these statuses:

StatusMeaning
"Nobody authorized"No one on the roster can run it.
"Below minimum"Fewer people are authorized than the coverage minimum set for your organization.
"Covered"Enough people are authorized.

To count only the people who usually work a shift, choose that shift instead of "The whole roster". To hide covered analytes, check "Only gaps". Authorizations expiring within 30 days are counted but marked as expiring.

Fixing a gap

Click an analyte to see who is authorized, why it is short, and how to fix it. You can:

  • add an authorized member of the site group who is not yet on the roster
  • assign the competency module for the analyte, or create one if none exists
  • authorize someone directly on their personnel record
  • record a coverage exception

Coverage exceptions

Sometimes competency is documented outside Legion Diagnostics, for example a paper record from before you started using it, or a person recorded by name without an account. Record a coverage exception for a person on the roster, saying where the competency is documented and, optionally, until when it is valid. Exceptions count toward coverage and are labeled as exceptions in the table. Archived exceptions stop counting and can be restored.
