Importing analytes from a spreadsheet (CSV)
Load up to 500 analytes onto an analyzer from one CSV file: download the template, check every row before import, and fix problems with or without AI.
When an analyzer runs many tests, import them from a spreadsheet instead of adding them one by one. On the analyzer's page in the test directory, click "Add", then "Multiple analytes", then "Upload a CSV". The dialog that opens has an "Import" tab and a "Data Upload Guide" tab that explains every field.
The template
Click "Download template" for a file laid out the way the import expects: one column per analyte, with the field names down the left-hand side.
| Field | Needed for |
|---|---|
| Analyte name | every analyte |
| Analyte type (quantitative or qualitative) | every analyte |
| Fluid type, Units, Allowable error (TEa) | quantitative analytes |
| Assay method, Assay temperature (°C), Reagent strategy, Product / kit | optional |
| Primary tube, Secondary tube | optional |
| Source of TEa, Link to source of TEa, Biological variation | optional |
You can write allowable error as ±10%, ±2.0, ±6 or ±8% (whichever is greater), or ±2 if ≤ 20 or ±10% if > 20. Setting total allowable error explains each form. One file can hold up to 500 analytes.
Checking before anything is imported
Every analyte in the file is checked before anything is saved. A row is refused if the analyte is already on the analyzer, if the same name appears twice in the file, if a required field is missing or unreadable, or if the column names a different analyzer.
What happens next depends on the file:
- A clean file opens a review grid that says how many analytes are correct and will be imported. Click "Import N analytes" to add them. You can download rejected rows as a CSV to fix and try again.
- A file with problems, with AI turned on, opens the assistant. It lists each problem by analyte and field, offers to import the analytes that are ready, and helps fix the rest, for example by reading a spreadsheet laid out differently from the template. You still import from the review screen, because the assistant never imports on its own.
- A file with problems, without AI, opens the review grid in the dialog. Cells that need fixing are marked "Incorrect". Click one to correct it, and it is checked again. Anything still incorrect is skipped.
Imported analytes start as experimental. Add their assay details and mark them live when they are ready for patient testing (see Live and experimental analytes).
